Variables
Mountain Quail
Occurred the most disproportionately in Coast Range hexagons with
less than 1% streamside forest and varied topography. Closer to the
coast, it was found mostly in hexagons containing some public land
and with a May maximum temperature (hex. max.) of 18-22 C.
Almost equally likely to occur slightly west of the Coast Range where
May minimum temperature (hex. avg.) is 0.9-5.4 C. Among hexagons
in the easternmost part of its Oregon range, distribution is associated
mostly with occurrence of 2-80% mixed conifer forest (Northeast
Oregon). The logistic regression analysis showed positive or negative
association with elevation (hex. avg.), topographic variation, April
precipitation (hex. max.), and-to a lesser degree-the extent of public
land and July precipitation (hex. min.).
